Our environment

The Elemental range is based on certified organic nut oils and flower waters that mimic and complement the skin’s own natural processes. Essentially the products are skin food and a key ingredient of many of the products is the rain water that comes straight off the
Southern Ocean, the cleanest water in the world!

The standard mark up in the skin care industry is five hundred to three thousand per cent! Most conventional skin care products contain ingredients that are regularly linked by researchers to cancers. Skin care manufacturers are some of the largest multi-national companies on the planet.  As an under-regulated industry, companies are free to make outrageous claims about the health benefiting properties of ingredients that are generally only tested in-house and rarely, if ever, backed up by independent scientific research. Not only are consumers being exploited, the health consequences of using such products are very real!

Why use organic skin care?

Your skin is your body’s largest organ and it absorbs everything you put on it.  The application of skin and hair care products that contain petrochemical by-products and toxic ingredients leads to components of these being absorbed into the blood stream and disbursed into the body’s vital organs.  Did you know that the average woman absorbs up to 14kg of skin care products over a sixty year span!  Makes you think doesn’t it?

Organic skin care uses the highest quality ingredients available, ingredients that are grown through sustainable farming methods without the use of chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Conventional (non-organic) ingredients are often over refined as it gives the products a longer shelf life.  A  conventional hazelnut oil has a light, slightly yellow color with no odour. An organic hazelnut oil will be amber colored and smell of roasted hazelnuts.  The minimal processing of organic ingredients means that more of their botanical health-giving properties are retained and therefore available to be used by your skin!

The truth of it is that skin care products can’t perform miracles.  Rest, exercise, drinking plenty of water, minimal exposure to the sun are the keys to healthy skin – it’s a lifestyle choice!  Organic skin care products support and complement your skin’s natural processes, giving you a fresh and vital glow.

100% Pure Skin Food!

The majority of the products in the Elemental range are certified organic and those that aren’t, our mineral mud masks and bath salts, are made natural ingredients that cannot be certified according to international organic accreditation standards.

Up to 5% of our certified organic products can be comprised of non-certified ingredients that must be approved by NASAA.  In most cases, in the Elemental range, this percentage is made up of one of our natural preservatives, Vitamin E oil, a powerful anti-oxidant, and, in the case of our creams and lotions, our emulsifying wax which is derived from olives. We have sourced these ingredients to the highest possible standard and we are always on the lookout for them in their certified organic forms.

Like any food, our products do have a shelf life.  Our natural preservation system is no match for chemical preservatives.  You can help support the life span of your Elemental products by always using clean fingers and storing products away from direct sunlight.  If you are in a very hot climate, you might like to store your products in the fridge.

Seasonal variations create color variations in the ingredients we use and this creates color variations in our products, a good indicator for you of the naturalness of the Elemental range!

Packaged in Glass and Spun Aluminium

Essential oils may leach chemicals out of plastics thereby corrupting the products they contain.  Additionally, plasticizers, used to make plastics pliable, act like oestrogens in the environment and are being linked to hormone related cancers.  Elemental have minimized the exposure of the products to plastics by using glass and spun aluminium containers, materials that have a proven non-reactivity. Please re-use and recycle.

NASAA (National Association For Sustainable Agriculture Australia)

With so few ranges in the world that have genuine organic certification through internationally recognized bodies, Elemental is proud to be certified by NASAA, an organization renowned for its rigorous adherence to international organic accreditation standards. [view certification]

Our certification through NASAA means that we have a thorough quality assurance programme in place which is reflected in our handling, production and record-keeping systems, this includes maintaining up to date organic certificates for all the certified organic ingredients we use.  We are audited by NASAA twice a year, one scheduled and one unannounced, to ensure

that these standards are being maintained.

In addition to its domestic accreditation under AQIS, NASAA was the first Australian certification body to achieve accreditation through the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM). NASAA was also the first certifier outside of Japan to achieve accreditation under the Japan Agricultural Standard (JAS) and holds accreditation under the US National Organic Program (USNOP).
